Adobe Illustrator, a revered name in the design realm, has once again revolutionised the field with its latest groundbreaking update. Among the numerous enhancements, the spotlight falls on the innovative 'Text to Vector Graphic' feature, albeit a beta version at the time of writing. Think of it as a Chat GPT for vector graphics, built into your Adobe Illustrator software. This addition has stirred considerable excitement within the design community for its potential to streamline workflows and elevate design capabilities.
Not only does it allow you to create graphics of a particular subject, but it can create entire "scenes", icons and even patterns – all as vectors. This means that you're not limited to just standalone graphics, but an entire artwork that is visually consistent. On top of that, you can select to copy the same style as an active art board, which means you can fill an artboard with the colours and styles of graphic that you like and the AI will generate a scene, subject, icon or pattern, similar to that style.
The 'Text to Vector Graphic' feature in Adobe Illustrator represents a game-changing advancement for designers seeking unparalleled flexibility and control over their vector graphics. By converting text into scalable and editable vector graphics, this innovative tool eliminates the limitations of conventional text rendering. Not only does it allow for seamless scalability without compromising quality, but it also provides designers with the freedom to manipulate and fine-tune elements in ways previously unattainable.
The impact of 'Text to Vector Graphic' on design workflows is notable for its ability to expedite the creation and modification of vector-based elements. This feature significantly reduces the time-consuming manual effort traditionally required for creating vector graphics. Designers can now swiftly convert textual content into scalable vector artwork, thereby accelerating the overall design process. This feature in Adobe Illustrator is a versatile tool with a multitude of applications across different design scenarios. From logo creation to typography exploration and beyond.
At Oblivious Design, we are completely on board with this new AI. Not only can you use the vector graphics generated from this AI as is, but you can also use it for inspiration – gaining ideas and building on what the software generates. A lot of the time we are in need of a quick icon or illustration, and to come up with a quick and easy idea may sometimes be difficult. That's when 'Text to Vector Graphic' really helps give us ideas that we can then build upon.
Although Adobe have only released the beta version, and some of the vectors that it generates are still a little rough around the edges. However, we love this feature. We love it so much that we have used it to create 100% of the vector graphics you see in our blog post thumbnails!
The ripple effect of this innovation is likely to resonate throughout the design industry, fostering a new wave of creative approaches and setting a benchmark for future software enhancements. Designers are poised to witness an era where just typing a few descriptive words can seamlessly transition into scalable vector artwork, thereby influencing design trends that prioritise flexibility and scalability. The 'Text to Vector Graphic' feature is not merely a tool; it's a harbinger of a future where design processes become more intuitive, allowing designers to delve deeper into their creative realms while harnessing the power of advanced technology. Its integration into industry-standard workflows hints at a future where such intelligent tools become the norm, driving a paradigm shift in the way designers craft and conceptualise their projects.
Adobe Illustrator's introduction of the 'Text to Vector Graphic' feature marks a significant milestone in the evolution of design software. Empowering users with enhanced flexibility, efficiency, and creativity, this innovation is poised to shape the future of design. As designers adapt and integrate this tool into their workflows, its impact on the industry will undoubtedly be far-reaching.
